Food + Fun

What I’m Eating/Where I’m Going/What' I’m Doing

A Taste of Cuba

90 miles from Cuba

But you wouldn’t know it

Sometimes I get invited on press trips, and sometimes I say yes. This one was especially fun, because it was to a place I’d never been before—Key West.

It was one of my favorite kinds of trips with mostly eating and drinking (hello Hemingway food tour), and the sunny 80 degree weather was a welcome change from what I was dealing with in Nashville. I was there three days and two nights, which was short enough to make me want to go back.

All of the food was great, but my standout meal was at El Meson de Pepe. They’ve been serving authentic Cuban food in the Keys for more than 30 years. My meal came with two house-made hot sauces, and I wish I’d bottled some to take home. I will be thinking about their mojo pork until I die.
